Craig Yenke
Inspired by his parents' collection of antiques and old German toys, Craig experimented with different materials until he found "something that worked" to re-create the look and feel of old toys. He sculpts his animals from wire, paper mâché, and cotton. Note that he does every step by hand. "It would be easier to make one, then just use the mold for all the others", he admits, "but I think it's important to hand-make each one so everyone can own an original piece". Craig strives to make traditional designs with a sense of realism, which fits with his definition of folk art: "Either using traditional methods or materials that define traditions and culture". First used in the 18th Century, this process continues to be appreciated by many who collect this hard to get work.
Since each piece is hand-made, lead times for out-of-stock items runs up to six months. Contact us if you desire something that is not listed and we can tell you if any are on order.
